VELFAC side-hung composite wood aluminium window with slim frame

VELFAC Side-Hung Windows

Concealed Hinges

Espagnolette Handle

Uniform External Sightlines

48mm Triple Glazing

VELFAC side-hung windows offer the familiar operation of a traditional casement window, refined through the slim, contemporary VELFAC 200 ENERGY system. Hinged at the side and opening outwards to 90°, they provide excellent ventilation, practical day-to-day use and a generous clear opening for many room types.

They are a strong choice for bedrooms, living spaces, kitchens and projects where fire escape requirements, easy airflow and a clean Scandinavian façade are important. With 48mm triple glazing, composite wood/aluminium construction, concealed hinges and a 12 year VELFAC window warranty, they combine simple functionality with premium performance.

A Practical Casement Window with a Slim Scandinavian Frame
Ideal for airflow, everyday use and projects where clear opening matters.

VELFAC side-hung windows are designed for projects where function needs to be simple, reliable and visually refined. The sash is hinged at the side and opens outwards, allowing fresh air to be directed into the room while keeping the internal sill and living space clear. This makes the product useful in bedrooms, home offices, living areas and many kitchen layouts where inward-opening windows would be inconvenient.

From the outside, the side-hung window shares the same slim VELFAC 200 ENERGY appearance as fixed, top-guided and side-guided units. This is important on larger glazing schemes because it means opening and fixed windows can sit together within the same elevation without looking mismatched.

The 54mm floating frame design helps maximise daylight while giving the façade a crisp, uncluttered finish.

The current VELFAC 200 ENERGY system is triple glazed as standard and uses a composite construction: weather-resistant aluminium outside and timber inside. This helps deliver strong energy performance, low external maintenance and a warmer, more natural interior finish.

Concealed hinges, friction arms and espagnolette handles are built into the design, with additional options such as lockable restrictors, safety-lock handles, acoustic trickle vents and electric openers available depending on the specification.

Benefits

Side-hung windows are one of the most straightforward and versatile VELFAC opening styles. They open outwards like a conventional casement window, making them easy to understand, simple to use and suitable for a wide range of room layouts.

Because the sash opens to 90°, they can provide a strong free-opening area and are often considered where a practical escape route or generous ventilation is needed.

The VELFAC version improves on the traditional casement format with a very slim external frame, powder coated aluminium outside and timber inside. This gives the window a crisp modern appearance externally while retaining the warmth and finish of wood internally.

It is a particularly good option for homeowners who want contemporary performance without moving away from a familiar window operation.

Side-Hung Window Sizes, Colours and Hardware
Specify the window around your opening, internal finish, glass and security requirements.

VELFAC side-hung windows are made to measure rather than supplied from stock sizes. They can be specified as single sashes or French casement double-leaf designs, with sizing checked against the VELFAC product database and the required free-opening area.

The external aluminium frame can be powder coated in standard RAL colours, with further granite, metallic and anodised finishes available on selected specifications.

Internally, the timber can be finished in clear lacquer to show the natural wood or painted in a colour to suit the interior.

The current VELFAC 200 ENERGY system uses 48mm triple glazing as standard, with project-specific options for acoustic, solar control, obscure, safety and laminated glass.

Hardware choices include standard espagnolette operation, safety-lock or key-lock options, lockable restrictors, click vents, acoustic trickle vents, circular catch handles for certain narrow units and electric openers for remote or natural ventilation strategies.

Made-to-Measure VELFAC Side-Hung Window Pricing
Every VELFAC side-hung window is priced around the exact specification of your project.

VELFAC pricing depends on the window size, quantity, opening function, frame colour, internal timber finish, glass specification, security requirements, restrictors, ventilation options and installation details.

A side-hung window with standard finishes will usually sit differently in budget terms from a larger French casement arrangement, an acoustic specification or a unit with specialist hardware.

View Glazing can review your drawings, window schedule or approximate measurements and help you choose the most suitable VELFAC configuration.

For accurate pricing, it is best to confirm free-opening requirements, Part Q requirements, preferred colours, ventilation strategy and any planning or design considerations before the quotation is finalised.
